The Yoga Certification Board (YCB) was established in March 2018 under the Ministry of AYUSH, Central Govt, with the aim of promoting Yoga as a career and raising the standard of education among Yoga Professionals.
It was mainly set up to:
- Promote yoga as a career skill.
- Meet the growing demand for trained yoga teachers.
- Certify yoga professionals.
- Accredit yoga institutions.
- Prescribe syllabi for various levels of yoga trainers.
Types of YCB Certifications / Accreditations:
Accredit Yoga Centres / Institutes / Schools / Ashrams. As mentioned below, there are four types of accreditation, each with separate criteria.
- Leading Yoga Institutions
- Yoga Institutions
- Yoga Training Centre
- Yoga Therapy Centre
Certify Yoga Professionals. There are 10 types of certifications, as mentioned below. Each differs in syllabus, exam format, exam fees, eligibility scope of work, etc.
- Most Basic Certifications, not for career

There are 10 types of Yoga Certifications, but only 9 are useful for career growth. A Yoga Volunteer Certificate is not meant for a career.
YCB Certifications for Yoga Professionals
In this blog, we will look in detail more about the 4 Certifications offered to Yoga Teachers.

2. Validity Period
Yoga Certification Board Ministry of Ayush Certifications for Yoga Teachers are valid for 5 years. The validity period is mentioned on the certificate as seen above.
3. Renewal Process
For renewals, you just need to appear for a small workshop, conducted online or offline. You get a notification for this in your email once you become YCB Certified.
At the end of the workshop, there will be a small assessment.
After that, you need to pay the renewal fees and your certificate will be renewed for 5 more years. Renewal fees are different for different certificates. It ranges from ₹500 – ₹2000.
Eligibility for YCB Exams

As per YCB’s policy, there is no age or education criteria for YCB exams. A child as young as 14 years of age studying in school can attempt the exam. On the other hand another person as old as 90+ years can also attempt.
Also, you can appear for any level of exam anytime.
Medically, there is nothing mentioned about the eligibility. But sensibly saying, you should not be suffering from any major health issue.
YCB Exam Pattern
There are two parts to the exam – Theory Exam and Practical Exam. The total exam carries 200 marks. These 200 marks are divided into theory and practical exams as mentioned below.
Theory Exam
Theory exam contains MCQ type questions. Each question carries 1 mark and there is no negative marking.
Practical Exam
Practical exam consists of demonstration and viva. It lasts for 20 – 30 minutes.
Passing Criteria
You need to score at least 70% marks in both theory and practical separately to pass the exam.

YCB Exam Fees
YCB Exam fees have two components:
Enrollment Fees
It is charged by the YCB, Govt of India. It is fixed for each level.
- Yoga Protocol Instructor: ₹500
- Yoga Wellness Instructor: ₹1000
- Yoga Teacher & Evaluator: ₹1500
- Yoga Master: ₹2000
Exam Conducting Fees
It is charged by the agency or PRCB for conducting the exam. These are private bodies authorized to conduct YCB exams. Each agency has a different price structure. Approximately, this will be the exam conducting cost.
- Yoga Protocol Instructor : ₹2500 – ₹3500
- Yoga Wellness Instructor : ₹3000 – ₹4000
- Yoga Teacher & Evaluator : ₹4000 – ₹5000
- Yoga Master : ₹6000 – ₹8000

Firstly, find an institute that can help you to prepare for the desired level of exam. YCB has made a very extensive syllabus which is very difficult to prepare without any help. You must have someone to help to prepare for the exam.
Secondly, find mock exams, and mock questions to attempt before going for the final exam.
Thirdly, register for the YCB exam. Your institute can help you to do that. Or you can do it yourself on the YCB website.
